Meet the Eagles

2011 // May

For a few weeks now, more than 69 million people have tuned into a live video stream of a Bald Eagle family in the American heartland of Iowa. The eagles have no idea of the camera’s presence, and the images of life high on a perch offer fascinating insight into nature in action, 24/7.

A dedicated legion of followers has developed, with the eagles – two adults and four little ones – finding their way into the hearts of many.

One viewer described the stream as “seriously addictive.” Mealtimes, consisting of anything from fish to small rodents, are a favorite source of discussion.

According to wildlife studies, it takes an eagle between 11-12 weeks to fly, meaning there’s still some time to observe proceedings before the empty nest syndrome kicks in.
